The Beginning...
Once upon a time there was an idea. It went from a name, to a studio, to a website, to a costume design, to a character, to a full length play...
The Alyce Project actually began in a very odd manor...
It all started with a name...
The playwright (who goes by Kat), is your typical renaissance woman and has a number of artistic measures she does well. Wanting to expand herself, she decided to put her costumes, masks, and visual art pieces out on the web to commission and sell...but, you can't really have a website for a studio that has no name. As her creations deal more with the fantastical, her best friend thought of the name "Wonderland" to summarize everything to be housed under the domain. "You could create an Alice in Wonderland-like costume and a character design to use on the front page layout..."
And so she did - with a little creative thinking, "Alyce" was born and clothed...but, she was definatly not your sugary-sweet, Disney-mangled character we've all grown to know. Sure she seems sweet and nice...but under that simple exterior was housed more demons than one might care to know...
And so began the story...one that's twisted out of control into what you see now. One that began in the way all the playwright's stories seem to...
What if...?
The Script...
Curious to know what Alyce in Wonderland is all about? While we can't tell you everything...just mix the follwing elements together:
Take two classic stories -- Alice in Wonderland and Alice Through the Looking Glass by Lewis Carroll...
Add some more shadowing...
Some elegant gothic Lolita fashion...
A dash of innocence lost...
Throw in a little instability...
Voila...you have "Alyce". Much deeper than that, the script delves into parts of our own psyce that we just don't venture into...and for those of us that do, well...we'll just let Alyce explain that to you someday...
What is the Project?
The Alyce Project's objective is to find a way to stage the new, neverbefore seen script "Alyce in Wonderland" incorporating the talents of many young artists from all over the country -- actors, dancers, costume designers, puppeteers, mask makers, and many other wonderful medians of art.
As we are all (for the most part) poor college students with a vision, our main problem now is finding funding to get the project off the ground. Doing a show is expensive; and, with a show of this size, the price goes up. Sets, costumes, props, and other necessities all cost money...a hard thing to come by sometimes. The website was created to hopefully draw the attention of the community at large and gain interest in such a project -- with that, we hope to gain the support of many with not only monatary donations, but also with material donations and perhaps with volunteering as the time comes to produce the show.
If you are interested in helping out and would like more information about such, please check under contact information or the volunteer page and someone will gladly help you!
